Long Jumper Breaks Mission Viejo Record

DANA POINT — Mission Viejo’s Heather Sterlin broke the school long jump record with a mark of 19 feet 6 inches and helped the Diablos to an 84-43 victory over Dana Hills in a South Coast League girls’ track and field meet Thursday at Dana Hills.
The previous record was 19-0 1/2 set in 1978.
Sterlin also won the 100 hurdles in 14.99 seconds. Andrea Dean won the 100 (12.88) and 200 (26.82) and her twin sister, Shannon, took the 300 hurdles (48.1) as Mission Viejo improved to 3-0 in league.
Rajai Espinosa won the 800 (2:26.4) and the 1,600 (5:27.4) and Adara Newidouski won the shot put (35-4) and the discus (119-2) for Dana Hills (3-1, 2-1).
