Leona Helmsley Getting Last-Minute Appeal: The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday will take up the hotel queen’s request to perform community service rather than go to prison. Helmsley, 71, is scheduled to report Wednesday to a federal prison in Kentucky to begin a four-year term for evading $1.2 million in taxes. Her lawyers argued last month that prison would be the death knell for Helmsley and her ailing, 83-year-old husband, Harry. A judge rejected the argument.
