EL MODENA — An Orange County sheriff’s investigator on his way to work Wednesday morning arrested a man on suspicion of armed robbery.
Sheriff’s Investigator Kenn Hoffman was driving to work when he heard a police radio broadcast describing a man wanted in connection with an armed robbery at a house in the 18500 block of Spring Street, said Lt. Richard J. Olson.
Hoffman saw Marvin Mobley, 23, of Santa Ana, who fit the suspect’s description, walking a short distance from the house. Hoffman stopped Mobley and after a conversation took him into custody, Olson said.
Olson said an undisclosed amount of cash and a .357 magnum handgun, which were reported stolen, were discovered on Mobley.
Mobley was booked at Orange County Jail on suspicion of armed robbery. He was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, Olson said.
Mobley allegedly confronted a 62-year-old man at gunpoint as the victim was leaving for work shortly after 6 a.m. The resident was forced back into his house, tied to a chair and locked in a room, sheriff’s investigators said.
The victim managed to free himself and phone the Sheriff’s Department, Olson said. No injuries were reported.
