Ueberroth and Rebuild L.A.
There’s a lot of talk about people coming together to rebuild South-Central Los Angeles. And in that regard I want to say one very important thing. We will never be a successful community until we blacks learn to respect and support each other, morally and financially. And I’m talking about blacks of all areas, including Bel-Air, Beverly Hills, Malibu and Encino. All the Ueberroths of the world can’t help us if we don’t help ourselves. That comes first.
I’m a 56-year-old native of Los Angeles and I’ve been hearing and seeing it all my life--situations of blacks not supporting other blacks.
Black businesses like Golden State Life Insurance, Bank of Finance, Family Saving & Loan, Broadway Saving & Loan and others could have done much more to reach out to the community if there was a great desire, rather than be satisfied with their comfortable profits.
If the black haves don’t start supporting black businesses who serve the black community, the fire next time will be against blacks driving Mercedes and other expensive cars.
