STUDENT SUPPORT: Lawrence McHargue, 53, professor of botany at Southern California College in Costa Mesa, was named Faculty Member of the Year by the senior class last week. But that wasn’t his only reward: After a secret fund-raising drive, the class presented him with a coupon for a new pair of legs. . . . McHargue, born without legs, has worn artificial limbs all his life. But his current prostheses have worn out after 10 years. “Students here just love the guy,” a college spokesman explains.
