HIGH TECH : Sound the Alarm
Rigging your body with a device that emits 130 decibels of ear-piercing sound may sound drastic. But trips to an automated teller machine can be harrowing.
With the Body Alarm, a bodyguard now comes pager-size. The $55 device, which clips onto a belt or purse, is made of durable, waterproof plastic.
Regional wholesaler Steve Oaks says the alarm is popular with joggers, the elderly and night clerks. The alarm is powered by one 9-volt battery and can be rigged to a door or window when traveling.
The Body Alarm is available at the West Hollywood Jewelry Mart, 8941 Santa Monica Blvd., (310) 858-7474 or Autotronix Exclusive, 7705 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, (213) 656-1032.
