Three Los Angeles Police Department commanders have been temporarily transferred from assignments at Parker Center to fill vacancies in three of the department’s four geographic bureaus.
Rick Dinse, who was retired Chief Daryl F. Gates’ liaison during the investigations of the Rodney G. King beating, will go the Valley Bureau to replace a retired commander who assisted the deputy chief in charge. Art Lopez, one of only two Latino commanders in the department, will go to the South Bureau, whose prior commander, Ron Banks, was named Chief Willie L. Williams’ chief of staff. Larry Fetters, who has been an assistant to the director of the Office of Operations, will go to the West Bureau.
The reassignments were made to fill crucial slots until a citywide hiring freeze is lifted, a department spokesman said.
