From Staff and Wire Reports
Players instigating fights will be ejected from NHL games next season, under a rule passed Tuesday by the league’s board of governors, meeting at St. Petersburg, Fla.
Though the rule is designed to curb violence in hockey, it stopped short of an outright ban on fighting that some seek to embellish the sport’s image.
The league also voted to continue to study the possibility of NHL players participating in the Winter Olympics.
Also at the meetings, Brian O’Neill, the executive vice president who oversaw player suspensions, resigned after 26 years on the job.
