‘Holocaust-as-Hoax’ Pamphleteer Cleared

OTTAWA — The Supreme Court of Canada on Thursday reversed the conviction of a publisher who contended that the World War II massacre of Jews by Germany’s Nazis was a hoax. The court ruled unanimously that a law against the spreading of false news violates constitutional guarantees of free speech.
Toronto publisher Ernst Zundel, 53, had published a pamphlet saying that the Holocaust was an overblown myth perpetrated by a worldwide Jewish conspiracy. He was convicted in 1988 after two trials.
