PREP ROUNDUP : Mater Dei Girls Sweep Top Spots to Defeat Woodbridge in Tennis

The Mater Dei High School girls’ tennis team swept at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in defeating Woodbridge, 11-7, in a nonleague match Monday at the Costa Mesa Tennis Club.
Erika Asmuss, a senior, swept in singles, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, and Trisha Abe and Cheri Ota won in doubles, 7-6, 6-3, 6-1, for Mater Dei (1-0). Asmuss was 60-0 last season.
In other nonleague girls’ tennis:
Valencia 10, Canyon 8--Junior Renee Williams, the defending Orange League singles champion, won, 6-0, 6-4, 6-4, for host Valencia.
Brea-Olinda 11, Sonora 7--Tammy Tillmon and Ruth Sanchez swept at No. 1 doubles for visiting Brea-Olinda, (3-0), 6-4, 6-1, 7-6.
Laguna Hills 18, Orange 0--Lisabeth Yim swept at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for Laguna Hills.
Los Alamitos 14, Huntington Beach 4--Susan Huberman swept at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2, for Los Alamitos (2-1).
Santa Margarita 10, Sunny Hills 8--Sandy Needham swept at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-1, 6-0, for visiting Santa Margarita (2-0).
In nonleague girls’ volleyball:
Calvary Chapel 3, St. Margaret’s 2--Sara Roberts had 33 kills and Courtney Owens had 32 for host Calvary Chapel, which won, 15-5, 10-15, 13-15, 15-11, 15-7.
San Clemente 3, Santa Margarita 2--Dana Netherby had 14 kills and Nancy Doller added 10 for visiting San Clemente (1-1), which won, 9-15, 15-1, 16-14, 5-15, 17-15.
Troy 3, Los Amigos 1--Gina Lobito had 11 kills for host Troy (1-0), which won, 15-13, 15-7, 10-15, 15-11.
