Long Beach : New Schools Chief Given 44-Month, $118,000 Pact

The Long Beach Unified School District board unanimously approved a 44-month contract this week for new Supt. Carl Cohn. The 46-year-old administrator will earn $118,000 a year during a contract that begins Nov. 10 and ends June 30, 1996.

Cohn said he is pleased with the contract and noted that some provisions of the pact are particularly helpful for the father of a young family. Cohn has a daughter in first grade and a son in third grade.

Benefits in the contract include a $300,000 life insurance policy, a retirement plan contribution of $5,000 a year and 25 days of paid vacation per year.

Cohn, a Long Beach native, has risen through district ranks as a teacher and administrator. He replaces E. Tom Giugni, who plans to retire to Northern California. Giugni has said he is willing to remain with the district to help Cohn in an advisory capacity until the end of the year.
