LOS ANGELES : Council Continues Fight Over Burbank Airport
- Share via
The Los Angeles City Council has moved on two fronts to continue its years-long fight with the Burbank Airport over noise.
By a unanimous vote Tuesday, the council approved documents that challenge the adequacy of a preliminary environmental review of plans to expand the airport. The expansion would nearly double its capacity from 3 million passengers per year to 5.4 million.
Councilman Joel Wachs, who co-sponsored the motion urging the city to comment on the EIR, has said the draft EIR grossly understates the noise impacts of the expansion.
A second public hearing on the environmental study will be held Wednesday from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Beverly Garland Howard Johnson Hotel in North Hollywood. The meeting will be held by the Burbank Airport Authority.
In a separate action, the council unanimously directed the city attorney’s office to represent city interests when the airport requests renewal of its permit under state noise regulations.
