Countywide : Fringe of Storm Sheds Light Rain

Tropical Storm Roslyn brushed up against Orange County Thursday afternoon, but it is expected to veer west and miss most of the area later today, weather officials said.
The outer tentacles of the tropical storm, which is about 1,000 miles southwest of Southern California off the coast of Mexico, shed moderate showers in San Clemente while the rest of Orange County received light sprinkles.
Meteorologist Stephen Ahn of the National Weather Service said attempts to measure rain in different places in Southern California were not successful.
“Because of evaporation of the small amounts of moisture, it could not be computerized,” Ahn said.
The weekend forecast promises warm temperatures and no rain despite the presence of high clouds and high humidity, said Steve Burback a meteorologist with WeatherData.
“There will be some clouds, but the storm is moving westward because of a weak pressure system from the north,” Burback said.
The slight showers in Orange County were not part of Hurricane Iniki, which belted the island of Kauai with 130-m.p.h. winds.
“Right now, Iniki is a weak storm system somewhere in the Gulf of Alaska,” Burback said.
According to WeatherData, which provides forecasts for The Times, there is another tropical storm along the Mexican coast that could form into a hurricane by Sunday.
“We’ll see some high clouds but not much else,” Burback said of the new storm system developing.
“The weekend should have temperatures in the lower 80s and be great for outdoor activities.”
