Santa Anita Realty Makes 2nd Move Into Texas: Orange-based Santa Anita Realty Enterprises Inc. has made a second move into the Texas market, buying a 328-unit apartment community in San Antonio for $4.5 million. The 10-acre acquisition Thursday from Travelers Insurance Co. followed Santa Anita’s purchase last June of a 244-unit complex also in San Antonio. It is part of the real estate investment trust’s plan to acquire between 2,000 and 3,000 apartment units in the Texas market in the next several years, said Glenn Carpenter, president and chief executive officer of Santa Anita Realty Enterprises. There have been few apartments built in Texas recently, and, with the economy continuing to strengthen, the Texas rental market is attractive, Carpenter said. Santa Anita Realty also owns the Santa Anita racetrack; apartments in Southern California, Texas and the Pacific Northwest; and industrial and other holdings in California, the Northwest and Arizona.
