Inmate Lets Freedom Ring, but 2nd Try Disconnected

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An inmate slipped away for a week after he had his bond lowered by pretending to be a judge in a phone call to a jail clerk, authorities said.
Timothy Mullins, an accused art thief, was picked up Wednesday on a public disturbance charge a week after his escape. On Thursday, he was apparently back on the phone trying to convince jailers his latest arrest was a mistake. A criminal court judge told jailers to take away Mullins’ phone privileges.
