Sarandon II

In reference to the flurry of letters re Susan Sarandon last Sunday, I’d like to remind the writers that the most basic value of this country is freedom, and that includes freedom from the moral value systems practiced by others. For instance, it may be moral for Islamic women to cover their hair, but I’m grateful that I have the freedom not to adhere to that belief.
At this point, I’m also grateful that Sarandon is capable of taking care of herself and her own. Many of society’s problems appear to stem from those people who are not so capable, and with or without morals, that’s where the work needs to be done.
Economically independent women raising children is a pretty trivial issue. The real issue is the homeless children on the street whom nobody is raising, and who would, I’m sure, be eternally grateful for the food, clothes and shelter that Sarandon provides her children.
