Altadena : Children’s Home Site
After hearing concerns about the possible loss of a historic house, the Town Council voted unanimously to ask that the county postpone approval of a group home for abused and drug-addicted children.
Dottie Bridal, chairwoman of Altadena Heritage, asked the Town Council to investigate recent reports that the Bienvenidos Children’s Center may raze a Craftsman-style house at 183 E. Palm St., the site of the proposed facility.
Lorraine Castro, executive director of Bienvenidos, said later that every effort will be made to keep the house, but that restoration may prove to be too costly.
Though it has twice tentatively supported the proposed children’s home, the Town Council requested Tuesday that the Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission postpone granting a conditional-use permit, which it has already tentatively approved.
The Town Council’s land-use committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday with project personnel.
