South Pasadena : Selection of a City Flower

The seed is planted for South Pasadena to have an official city flower. Now it is up to the City Council to decide which variety will bloom.
Last week, the City Council was presented a slate of 35 nominees gathered by the civic group South Pasadena Beautiful on ballots left in libraries and post offices since April.
The highly popular azalea was the public’s first choice, but it might lose the edge because it is already the city flower of Arcadia. South Pasadena Beautiful suggested that, if it is chosen, a white, red or pink variety be specified.
Runners-up in the balloting were the Southern magnolia, followed by the rose.
The council is expected to announce a decision at its Oct. 7 meeting.
