BRISBANE, Australia — Two young nurses outwitted a prison escapee by persuading him to get into their car trunk so they could drive him to safety. They went straight to police instead.
Police said Donald Watts, 18, broke into a house shared by Leanne Bowman and Caitlin Conroy, both 22.
Watts told the women he was desperate to escape the police cordon. Conroy said she offered to put him in the trunk of her car and drive him out of their suburb.
“He said ‘Good idea,’ ” Bowman said. “ . . . I think he was pretty stupid.”
Watts got into the trunk and pulled the lid shut.
Conroy drove straight to the police.
Watts was ordered held without bond on 21 charges following a court hearing Friday.
