Mission Bay won the Grand Championship of the Woodbridge Cross-Country Invitational at Irvine Woodbridge High. The Buccaneers’ five fastest overall runners on the three-mile course totaled 1 hour 17 minutes 29 seconds to beat Foothill by 29 seconds.
Of those five, Devin Elizondo won the junior boys Division III race in 14:49.
Water Polo
Trailing by three goals in the first half, Poway rallied for a 9-6 victory over Granite Hills to win the championship of the San Diego Invitational at Granite Hills.
Granite Hills jumped out to 2-0 and 4-1 leads, but Poway managed to tie it, 4-4, with five seconds left in the first half. After exchanging early second-half goals, the Titans took an 8-5 lead midway through the fourth quarter.
“Poway definitely looks like the top team in the county,” Granite Hills Coach Brian Wilbur said.
In other matches, Mt. Carmel beat Fallbrook, 10-6, to finish third; Orange Glen downed Valhalla, 11-6, for fifth place; and Mt. Miguel took seventh with a 14-9 victory over La Jolla.
Girls’ Volleyball
The Bishop’s School lost only one game in five matches and won the championship of the Westridge Invitational at Pomona Westbridge High. In the championship, Bishop’s defeated Duarte, 5-15, 15-3, 16-14.
