Thousand Oaks’ Jones Places 7th in World Junior 200

Marion Jones of Thousand Oaks High finished a disappointing seventh in the women’s 200 meters Saturday in the World Junior (age 19 and under) track and field championships in Seoul.
Jones, 16, timed 24.09 seconds, nearly a second behind victor Hu Ling of China (23.14), and well off her national junior and high school record of 22.58.
Cathy Freeman of Australia finished second in 23.25, with Meriene Fraser of Jamaica third in 23.29.
Jones finished fifth in the 100 in 11.58 Thursday. She has a best of 11.14.
She is scheduled to run a leg on the United States’ 400-meter relay today, and might run a leg in the 1,600 relay.
