A man was fatally shot Wednesday morning and another was wounded while driving in Imperial Beach, San Diego sheriff’s deputies said.
The two men were driving west in the 800 block of Palm Avenue, toward Coronado, when a car pulled alongside at 3:22 a.m. and the occupants opened fire, Sgt. Jim Cooke said.
Both men were shot several times, but got the car to Coronado Hospital. The passenger, Alejandro L. Cazares, 31, of Coronado, died at 4 a.m., officials said.
The driver, a 29-year-old man from Mexico, underwent about three hours of surgery and was in stable condition late Wednesday, hospital spokeswoman Katie Aaron said.
The driver’s name is being withheld because authorities fear more violence in retaliation for the shooting.
