Lincoln High Is Without Seats and Possibly a Home Schedule

The Lincoln High football team might have to play all of its games on the road this season because the school’s bleachers have been condemned by district officials.
Officials from the Los Angeles Unified School District deemed the bleachers unsafe earlier this week, saying the wooden seats and support panels have dry rot.
They do not know how much repairs would cost, but the district has said it cannot afford such a project this year.
“I guess after 55 years, the school could use some new bleachers,” said Randy Rodriguez, the school’s football coach. “It’s too bad because we’ll lose a lot of revenue.”
Lincoln was supposed to play host to Hamilton on Friday, but the game will be played at Hamilton. The site of the team’s remaining three home games will be decided on weekly basis.
William Chew, a Lincoln assistant principal, said the school is considering adding portable bleachers so football games can go on as scheduled. But Hal Harkness, district athletic commissioner, said he does not think there is any district money left for such a project.
Garfield High faced a similar problem in 1988 when its bleachers were condemned. They were rebuilt in 1990 after the school raised the funds from private donations.
