Cedars-Sinai at $40 Million Toward Goal

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center celebrated its “Campaign for the 21st Century” at a gala Monday at the Regent Beverly Wilshire and announced that more than $40 million has been raised toward the five-year goal of $140 million. Funds will support patient care, research, medical education and community service. Anne and Kirk Douglas are honorary co-chairmen of the campaign.

Pacific Center for HIV/AIDS Counseling and Psychotherapy netted $75,000 at a black-tie gala Sept. 19 at the Bonaventure. The charity provides support to more than 600 people who are HIV-positive or have AIDS. The gala, honoring Angela Lansbury, was sponsored by Midway Hospital Medical Center and Gonzalez Byass.

Dream Street Foundation raised more than $150,000 at a Sept. 17 premiere exhibition of the Topkapi Jewels at the Armand Hammer Museum of Art. The party, attended by more than 500 guests, honored Barbara Eden for her work with children. Proceeds will fund the foundation’s summer camp program for children with cancer, AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses.

Center Theatre Group’s 25th anniversary celebration, which culminated with a celebrity-packed black-tie ball at the Beverly Hilton for more than 650 guests, netted $400,000 for the Mark Taper Forum and Ahmanson Theatre. Co-chairwomen of the Aug. 27 gala were Joan Burns, Phyllis Hennigan and Deborah Tellefsen. Nancy Olson Livingston was honorary vice chairwoman.

Creative N.A.S. (Neighbors Always Sharing) Recovery Shelter in South-Central Los Angeles announced that it has received donations totaling $12,700 from Arco employees and the Arco Matching Gift Foundation, Security Pacific Bank/Bank of America Foundation, TRW, West Angeles Church of God in Christ, Family Savings & Loan, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The shelter houses homeless people and is assisted by Shelter Partnership.

John Wayne Cancer Institute at St. John’s Hospital and Health Center in Santa Monica received the $40,000 net proceeds from the Kevin Dobson Celebrity Golf Classic July 17-19. The institute provides comprehensive cancer treatment and research.
