La Serna Hands Magnolia Third Loss in a Row

WHITTIER — Josh Hamlin threw for 145 yards and two touchdowns to lead La Serna to a 20-8 victory over winless Magnolia Friday night at California High.
Teammate Jim Hunter compiled 106 yards receiving and scored once. He also kicked two field goals. On La Serna’s first possession of the first quarter, Hunter connected on a 35-yard field goal giving La Serna a 3-2 lead.
Hunter also connected on a 25-yard field goal in the second quarter to give La Serna a 6-2 lead.
La Serna added two more touchdowns before the half ended. The first came on a 20-yard pass from Hamlin to Hunter. The second score came on a seven-yard pass from Hamlin to Brown, capping a seven-play drive.
Magnolia’s only touchdown came on a three-yard run by Jamal Wright.
Robert Nicols was four for 18 passing for 56 yards with one interception for Magnolia (0-3), and teammate Sean Roy ran for 59 yards in 19 carries.
