MISSION VIEJO — A 24-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine was killed early Saturday when his car swerved off Interstate 5 near Crown Valley Parkway, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Kendall Saxon, a Marine from South Carolina, was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple injuries, according to an Orange County coroner’s deputy. A passenger, identified only as a 25-year-old Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, was treated for minor injuries and released from Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center.
The two men were traveling about 65 m.p.h. They were going south shortly before 4:30 a.m. when Saxon swerved his Nissan 300ZX to the right and ran off the road for an unknown reason, a CHP spokesman said.
