Whittier Christian 37, Sonora 7--Aaron Meschuk rushed for 223 yards and two touchdowns in 28 carries to lead Whittier Christian (3-0) in a nonleague game at Whittier College.
Teammate Mack Myer added 86 yards and a touchdown in 18 carries as the Heralds dominated the rushing game.
Sonora started strong, with defensive back Steve Kincaid intercepting a Chad Callahan pass and returning it 62 yards to the Whittier Christian three-yard line.
It took only one play for the Raiders to capitalize on the turnover as Albert Magdaleno scooted in from three yards to give Sonora (1-3) a 7-0 lead with 8 minutes 56 seconds left in the second quarter.
Whittier Christian tied the score on a 16-yard touchdown run by Meschuk with 3:40 left in the second quarter, capping a nine-play, 73-yard drive. The Heralds added seven points on Myer’s one-yard touchdown run for a 14-7 halftime lead.
In the second half, Whittier Christian scored on Meschuk’s 35-yard run, giving the Heralds a 23-7 lead with 2:17 left in the third quarter.
Whittier Christian added two fourth-quarter touchdowns to close out the scoring.
