St. Bonaventure 41, Nordhoff 13--Junior running back R.J. Kisling carried 20 times for 144 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Seraphs at Ventura High.
Nordhoff (2-1), ranked fifth in Division X, had given up only 13 points in its first two games, and St. Bonaventure (2-1), also a Division X school, had given up 10.
The Seraphs dispelled any notion of a defensive struggle on their opening drive, putting together an 11-play, 98-yard march that culminated in Kisling’s 13-yard run up the middle. Kisling carried six times for 54 yards on the drive.
Senior running back Gino Nucci scored on a one-yard run early in the third quarter to give St. Bonaventure a 28-0 lead. Nucci finished with 87 yards in 14 carries.
Nordhoff scored with 2 minutes 45 seconds left in the third quarter when quarterback Steve Saum connected with tight end Mike Yourk on a 19-yard play after a fake field-goal attempt.
St. Bonaventure rolled up 323 yards. Saum completed 11 of 28 for 104 yards and a touchdown but threw three interceptions.
Nordhoff won last season’s meeting, 40-20, in Ojai but has not beaten St. Bonaventure at Ventura since 1978.
