VALLEY COLLEGE : Serpa Is Named Scholar-Athlete

Shelby S. Serpa, a Valley College track and cross-country team member, has been named a California Community College Scholar-Athlete for 1992.

The annual award is given to 21 students who are chosen from a pool of 20,000 athletes who participate in community college athletic programs each year. The award is based upon excellence in citizenship and academics, as well as in athletics, said Valley College spokeswoman Shannon Stack.
