ANAHEIM — A man was killed when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the Santa Ana Freeway near Katella Avenue late Sunday, the California Highway Patrol said.
“We had a pedestrian trying to cross the freeway, and he was struck by a car going northbound in the No. 3 lane,” said Officer Lyle Whitten of the CHP’s Westminster office.
The identity of the man, believed to be about 25 years old, is unknown, and he is being listed as a “John Doe,” Whitten said.
Investigators are assuming that the man attempted to cross the freeway about 11:45 p.m. to avoid taking a longer route on the overpass, Whitten said.
The driver, Alma Metz, 71, of Anaheim, told officers that she did not see the man before he was struck. She was not cited.
