All dressed up and no place to buzz. The second anniversary Buzz bash this month was canceled after fire marshals’ last-minute inspection of Cafe Morpheus turned up numerous violations--unfinished walls were draped with muslin, food was being prepared everywhere but the kitchen, and the sprinkler system wasn’t operational. Anyone got a light? Plucky staffers had a scant hour and a half to notify their A-list of the cancellation. Hugh Hefner, Keenan Ivory Wayans, Penelope Ann Miller, Ed Moses and others were spared the sight of chagrined editor-in-chief Allan Mayer standing in front of the boarded-up entrance, trying to explain why there was no there there. Not everyone was so lucky--David Brenner, fashion designer Tamar Valenta, film producer Sasha Harari and 600 others showed up. Buzz staff tried to make nice, handing out 450 party bags, containing a pass to the Beverly Hot Springs, a Tim Minor tape, a T-shirt and a mag. Get ‘em while they’re hot.
