In Case You, Too, Master Cold Fusion

TOKYO — A Japanese company has come up with a do-it-yourself cold fusion test kit.
The kit can tell a researcher whether or not he has mastered cold fusion, the Holy Grail of modern science, say producers Advanced Film Technology, a scientific equipment subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp.
If cold fusion--fusion on a small scale and at room temperature--is mastered, it could provide almost limitless clean, safe energy using water as fuel.
The kit follows a claim in October by a researcher at Nippon Telegraph & Telephone’s laboratories to have direct evidence of a cold fusion reaction.
But at $564,000, the test kit does not come cheap, and Advanced Film Technology has found only two potential buyers since it launched the kit at the end of November.
