A 6-year-old girl was critically injured in Oxnard when she was hit by a car as she crossed the street, police said Thursday.
Adriana Lopez of Oxnard was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center for a head injury and bruises. She was listed in critical condition Thursday, a hospital spokesman said.
The accident happened about 6 p.m. Wednesday in the 1200 block of South J Street as the girl was being escorted across the street by Alex Solis, 17, of Oxnard, police said. The girl ran away from Solis into the street and was struck by Armando Mendoza, 22, of Oxnard who braked, skidded and tried to avoid hitting Lopez, police said.
Mendoza was not cited because he had no chance to stop, said police spokesman David Keith.
