The Cal State Northridge men’s swimming team lost its top breaststroker to academic ineligibility Monday. Bill Nickel, a junior transfer from Orange Coast College, will not be allowed to compete beginning Monday, the first day of the second semester.
Nickel is not only the Matador’s fastest swimmer in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events, his sprinting ability is crucial to the success of the team’s 200 and 400 medley relay teams.
Nickel’s replacement, Scott Wilson, a sophomore from Ridgecrest Burroughs High, specializes in the 200 breaststroke.
