ORANGE — With about a minute to play, Kelly Moohr hit the front end of a one-and-one to give Santa Margarita a 50-48 victory over host University Tuesday at Chapman University.
The Eagles (6-10, 4-4 in Sea View League) rarely attempted shots from within the key during the first half, relying instead on outside jumpers and an aggressive defense. University committed seven turnovers in the second quarter alone. At halftime, Santa Margarita led, 29-21.
With five minutes left, University took a 44-40 lead but then committed five turnovers in three minutes, allowing Santa Margarita to pull ahead, 47-46.
Moohr then hit two free throws and the front end of a one-and-one. She finished with 11 points. Leslie Nolan scored 16 and Katie Keane 14 for Santa Margarita.
