Call for Men’s Clothing: The Orange County Rescue Mission is looking for a few good suits.
For the past two years, the Santa Ana-based social services organization has benefited from a strong relationship with the Gentlemen’s Rack, a Newport Beach clothing store. Owner Norm Anderson has offered customers a $30 trade-in bonus for quality used suits. Anderson cleaned and altered the suits before turning them over to the mission for distribution to needy men.
“The program was really a great success,” said mission spokesman David Hull. “We’ve got pictures of guys who went from old blue jeans with holes in them to suits that they needed when they were going out on job interviews.”
“We distribute the suits free of charge to individuals who are definitely homeless and who need them,” Hull said.
But the program’s future is in doubt because Anderson’s clothing store hasn’t attracted enough shoppers. The mission now is looking for clothing stores that can step in when Anderson closes his business in about two months.
Clothiers--or anyone with good-quality clothing that can be recycled--should contact Hull at (714) 835-0499.
