COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UCLA Snaps Northridge Streak at 5

UCLA stopped Cal State Northridge’s five-game winning streak during pool play Friday of the Nevada Las Vegas softball tournament.
The Matadors beat Utah, 7-2, in their tournament opener in the morning, but were shut out by UCLA, 6-0, in the second game.
Northridge (8-2), the No. 14-ranked team in the country, will play 15th-ranked Utah State in the quarterfinal today. The winner will play the winner of the UNLV-Utah game in a semifinal Sunday.
Jen Fleming, Beth Calcante and Vicky Rios each had two hits for Northridge in the game against Utah.
Fleming drove in the Matadors’ third and fourth runs with a single during a five-run fourth inning, and Calcante’s single gave Northridge its final run of the inning.
The Matadors’ last two runs came on home runs by Tamara Ivie and Shannon Jones in the top of the seventh.
Amy Windmiller (4-1) won in relief of Tracy Tousley, giving up one hit, striking out nine batters and walking four in five innings.
Northridge was held to two hits--singles by Fleming and Jones--in the loss to UCLA.
BASEBALL
Point Loma Nazarene 17, The Master’s 6--Five Master’s pitchers were tagged for five home runs and 17 hits in the NAIA District 3 defeat in San Diego.
The Mustangs (7-3, 3-2 in district play) opened the game with a run in the top of the first but allowed four runs in the bottom of the inning.
MEN’S TRACK
Moorpark 109, Cuesta 36, Canyons 11--Ken Teaseley, Bryan Krill and Sean McKeown produced the top marks for Moorpark in the Western State Conference meet at Canyons.
Teaseley won the javelin with a throw of 188 feet 4 inches, and Krill was victorious in the 100 (11.0 seconds) and 200 (21.6). He also anchored the Raiders’ 400 relay team to victory in 43.6.
McKeown was a double winner in the shotput (49-1) and discus (146-3).
WOMEN’S TRACK
Moorpark 65, Cuesta 42, Canyons 34--Julie Solis won the 100-meter low hurdles in 16.8 and the 400 lows in 71.0 to lead the Raiders to victory in the Western State Conference meet at Canyons.
