Krug, the Academy League’s most valuable player last season, returns to lead the C-Hawks’ charge toward a third consecutive Academy League championship. Krug hit .450 last season while posting a 0.22 earned-run average. “He’s a great all-around player,” Bartelt said of the 6-foot, 155-pound senior. Bartelt said Krug throws in the mid 80-m.p.h. range and also said Stanford is among the schools recruiting Krug. Walker, a two-year starter, returns after hitting .400 as the cleanup hitter. Wolf returns at catcher, and Foley is a base-stealing threat who will probably lead off, Bartelt said. Olsen gives the infield stability at shortstop and he batted leadoff for most of last season. Asalava, a freshman, has emerged as Cal Lutheran’s No. 2 pitcher. “I think we can win league, but this is such a goofy sport in that sometimes you win when you’re supposed to lose and vice-versa,” Bartelt said. “We lost in the first round of the playoffs the past two years and I think the kids are tired of that. I look at the season one game at a time, but I know the kids would like to get past that first round this season.”
