Rosemead : Slain Man Identified

Sheriff’s homicide detectives have identified a man found shot in the head Sunday morning on a playing field at Temple Intermediate School.
A Sheriff’s Department spokesman said Wednesday that detectives are investigating the death of Jack L. Berry, 22, of South San Gabriel, whose body was found by a group of young soccer players shortly before 8 a.m.
Autopsy results are pending and the exact cause of death has not been determined, the county coroner’s office said.
The body was found next to a backstop near the basketball courts at Temple Intermediate, 8470 Fern Ave.
Several residents who live near the school reported Monday that they heard what they thought was a car backfiring Saturday night, Principal Chris Hunt said.
