Former UCI Assistant to Coach at Foothill

Bob Thate, a former assistant coach at UC Irvine, has been hired as boys’ basketball coach at Foothill High, a source at the school said Friday.

Thate, 46, was an assistant at UCI from 1986-89. He then spent one season as an assistant at Cal State Long Beach. Thate also has been an assistant at Loyola Marymount, New Mexico and Pepperdine.

He replaces Dick Bradarich, who was 11-15 in his one season as the Knights’ coach.

Thate played two seasons at USC and later was an All-American at Occidental College.
