World IN BRIEF : FRANCE : Worldwide Ban on Nuclear Tests Urged

France, which has the world’s third-largest nuclear arsenal, called for a global atomic test ban in response to President Clinton’s decision to freeze U.S. testing until at least September, 1994. A statement from President Francois Mitterrand’s office noted that France had suspended its own underground tests in the South Pacific in April, 1992, and it urged other nuclear powers to do the same.
