Tom Browning’s rooftop escapade turned out to be a costly bit of fun.
While his Cincinnati teammates were defeating the Chicago Cubs, 4-3, Wednesday at Wrigley Field, Browning watched the action from the roof of a three-story building across the street.
After the game, Manager Davey Johnson lectured his pitcher and fined him $500, which will be given to charity.
Browning wanted to go inside the center-field scoreboard and watch the game from there, but the Cubs wouldn’t allow it. So he settled for the rooftop.
Johnson said the incident was “an embarrassment to me.”
