Monrovia : Group to Fight Tax Hike

A group of residents is organizing opposition to a proposed landscape and lighting maintenance district that would combine the city’s four assessment districts into one and hike fees for property owners.
“We are organizing people to sign protest papers to stop this unfair taxation,” said Jack Williams, one of a number of residents who are campaigning against the assessment.
The City Council can be forced to abandon the new district if those owning more than 50% of property in Monrovia file a protest with the city clerk by Aug. 3, when a vote on the issue is scheduled.
Robert C. Bammes, public works director, said the average homeowner would see the fee on property tax bills rise from $50.17 to $60.39.
