Vulnerable Citizenry

Why are so many laws are being made that make it a crime for law-abiding citizens to protect themselves? It’s illegal to use pepper gas, which is not lethal. It is illegal to carry a gun to protect yourself. No matter how many laws are enacted, the criminals will still have their guns and be more bold because of a disarmed citizenry.
If we defend our person or property, we face being prosecuted ourselves. The courts are failing to protect the law-abiding citizens.
