Second baseman Ryne Sandberg of the Chicago Cubs has been sidelined for the season because of an injury to his right hand.
Sandberg suffered a dislocated ring finger on his right hand last Monday sliding into the plate at San Francisco.
Sandberg’s troubles began in his first at-bat in spring training in March when he was hit by a pitch by Mike Jackson of the San Francisco Giants and suffered a broken left hand.
Sandberg sat out the rest of spring training and all of April before returning. He played in 117 games and batted .309, with nine home runs and 45 runs batted in.
