Teams Search for Ventura Diver

Rescue teams scoured the water near Ventura Harbor on Saturday night in search of a sport diver who had been missing for several hours, authorities said.
The diver, a Ventura man, was reported missing by friends who were diving with him off of the Ventura breakwater at 5:30 p.m., according to the Ventura Harbor Patrol.
The Harbor Patrol called in diving teams and a helicopter from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department after the diver had been missing for two hours, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.
Ventura Harbor Master Mark Cleavenger said that any breakwater diving has inherent risks, but diving is permitted where the man was last seen.
“There are always risks,” Cleavenger said. “But there is nothing uniquely dangerous about diving in that area.”
