Greene Paces Agoura Boys’ Win in Alabama

The Agoura High boys’ cross-country team, paced by the second-place finish of John Greene, won the Vulcan Classic in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday.
Greene, a junior, timed 15 minutes 8 seconds over the three-mile course to help the Chargers to an 83-point total. Atlanta Lovejoy finished second with 109 points and Pensacola (Fla.) Washington placed third with 135.
Agoura junior Amy Skieresz and senior Kay Nekota finished second and third in the girls’ race to power the Chargers to a second-place finish with 76 points.
Saratoga Springs (N.Y.), the No. 2-ranked team in the country, placed five runners among the first nine finishers for a 28-point total. Pillow River (N.Y.) was third with 109 points.
Skieresz, who placed third in last year’s Kinney national championships, timed 17:19 over the three-mile course, followed by Nekota at 17:31, but they were well behind Saratoga Springs freshman Erin Davis, who ran 16:38.
