JUNEAU, Alaska — Nearly every Alaskan man, woman and child will get $949.46 this year as their share of Alaska’s oil riches.
Every year, a percentage of the state’s oil revenue automatically goes into an investment fund that totals $15.5 billion.
The annual dividend announcement is eagerly awaited by Alaskans, and merchants have special sales every October, when the checks are issued.
More than 528,000 Alaskans who lived in the state throughout the previous calendar year qualified to receive checks this year.
The largest dividend, $1,000, came in the program’s first year.
