A 15-year-old Crescenta Valley High School student slipped and fell to his death Sunday while he and three friends were lobbing rocks off a cliff in the Angeles National Forest.
The body of Larry Isaac Veloz, 15, was recovered by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Emergency Service Detail at 5:32 p.m. at the base of a 150-foot cliff three miles north of Altadena near the intersection of Mt. Lowe Fire Road and Mt. Wilson/Red Box Road in the San Gabriel Mountains.
Veloz tumbled off the cliff about 5 p.m., according to his friends at the scene. Emergency workers took about 30 minutes to reach his body, Deputy Benita Hinojos said.
Fog and inclement weather forced the recall of a Sheriff’s Department helicopter participating in the recovery, Hinojos said.
