OC HIGH / STUDENT NEWS & VIEWS : Why Pay?
Why should Mission Viejo High School have to pay Harvey Comics for a (mascot) picture that will represent its team on the playing field? After all, aren’t sports supposed to be fun?
The schools in this area already have a tight budget and don’t need to pay someone using fund-raising money.
Harvey Comics’ “Hot Stuff” is a copy of the cartoon Casper the Friendly Ghost, so why does the school have to pay copyrights for a picture that is itself a rip-off? In the long run, Harvey Comics would get free publicity.
